GNR - Guarda Nacional Republicana

The National Republican Guard (Portuguese: Guarda Nacional Republicana) or GNR is the national gendarmerie force of Portugal.
Members of the GNR are military personnel, subject to military law and organisation, unlike the agents of the civilian Public Security Police (PSP).
The GNR is responsible for the preventive police and highway patrol in the countryside and small towns of Mainland Portugal (large urban centers and all the Portuguese islands territory being patrolled by the PSP). At national level, GNR also has duties of customs enforcement, costal control, nature protection, search and rescue operations and state ceremonial guards of honor.
Since the 2000s, the GNR has provided detachments for participation in international operations in Iraq, East Timor and other theatres.

    1. Merci mon ami! :D

  2. Very nice tribute to this paramilitary police force. Their ceremonial uniforms evoke a lot of history. BTW, are those figures actually for the unit or are they conversions - possibly WW1 French officers? Beautiful brushwork in any case.

    1. Thanks so much Dean, for your interest and nice comments :) Yes, these are an easy "conversion", from Crusader´s French Command Group: http://wk.frothersunite.com/sc/pulp/imagww2/french/crus2.jpg - just add.. ink! I´m planning on some others, Army and Police forces alike :) It´s kind of frustrating to have such a rich History, and not a single national firm producing 28mm minis... Well, there are lots of British, Spanish and French troops waiting to be "nationalised".. ;) Warm regards :D
